Strong Female characters

I read something the other day about “strong female characters” in movies today.  The author used a quote from Megan Fox to point out how distorted our idea of a strong woman is.  Miss Fox was quoted as saying,

“Both of the female characters in the movie were very strong characters. Rachel [Taylor]’s character is very intelligent. I thought that they were representing women very well.”

Anyone who has seen the Transformers, knows why Miss Fox was cast.  I agreed with the blogger but did not think much about it until I saw this post this morning by Emily Polis Gibson at Barnstorming.

I have always thought Mary Bailey/Donna Reed was sexy.  But maybe it is really about her being a “strong female character.”

Just an idea.

Thanks for the note, just taking a break and trying to decide what direction to take with my writing. I have enjoyed you last few postings. If you ever come to Portland for other reasons, I would love the chance to meet and greet.

    Signifier,
Whatever direction your writing takes, let it take it, but don’t stop writing. Your thoughts were inspiring mine and really, God was doing a work there (gag! that sounds so “churchy”). Okay, but you’d say stuff or write stuff and it would get me to thinking and pretty soon I find I’m dealing with and being challenged in spiritual areas and it was good for me! So, it’s all about me, don’t you know…LOL!
Okay, but seriously, if it isn’t killing your schedule and your family commitments to do it, you might want to consider continuing your writing. You have a gift of putting the Christian spiritual out there and making it relevant.
And…we can all use more relevance.
If I’m up in Portland (which I’d love to be at any opportunity!) I think that it would be fun to meet and greet. I’d love to attend a Beer and Blog…I’ve given some whimsical thought to beginning one here.
